  1. Fish and Shellfish

Some healthy choices include shrimp, halibut, cod, tilapia, flounder, sole, light canned tuna, etc. Salmon is often praised for its healthy omega 3 fats, but when it comes to substituting it for chicken breast, Salmon is higher in fat, which is why it is not included in this list. However, if you wanted to swap that out, you’d have to cut some additional fat out of your day.

 

  1. Turkey Breast

Very similar to chicken breast nutritionally, but it is something different to consider! Taste wise, turkey breast is very tender and has a deep poultry flavor. Turkey breast is harder to find, however places like Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Wegmans do carry it.

 

  1. Ground Chicken and Ground Turkey (97% or 99% fat free)

There is so much you can do with ground chicken or turkey! From healthy burgers, to chili, to meatballs, to Bolognese sauce, to casseroles, use your creativity and you will never get sick of this protein source! Just make sure you’re getting the leanest available.

 

  1. Lean Cold Cuts

Cold cuts like turkey and ham are a great, quick and easy way to switch it up! They’re great plain, on a salad, on a sandwich, etc. Try to opt for the low sodium brands to keep bloating at a minimum.

 

  1. Egg Whites

With virtually 0 grams of fat, and loads of protein, egg whites are a great alternative! You can even take some of those lean cold cuts and add them to your egg whites for a protein-packed omelet!
