5 Reasons To Focus On Competing With Yourself

5 Reasons To Focus On Competing With Yourself

There is nothing worse than comparing ourselves to others. It is a waste of time and energy. But that is what many people do when losing fat.  We want to lift more than the person over there, look like that Instagram fitness model, or get as big as that bodybuilder. This leads us to make unrealistic goals that set us up for failure. We have to learn how to forget about everyone else and focus on ourselves. Every day is a new day to get better and to learn something new and grow as an individual. Focus on you and your goals and strive for constant and never ending improvement for yourself. Compete with one person only…YOURSELF

Reasons why you should be competitive with yourself & no one else:

  1. You have a much healthier measure of your success: When you learn to be competitive with yourself instead of with others you don’t’ have to panic because someone else got something first. Once you let go of worrying about what others think or do you can let go of feeling like you are in a competition with others. You know things happen at the right place and at the right time when you put in the work required to get it. You can see what you do have and what you have accomplished and make yourself even more successful from that instead of following the footsteps of other people.
  2. You get a better sense of what you are capable of: Looking into yourself rather than outwardly at other people gives you an opportunity to assess whether those dreams or goals are right for you. Once you do that you can figure out where you have weak spots and work on improving them or let the dream go because hey it may have made another person happy but maybe it won’t make you as happy.
  3. You get a better measure for your own success: When you are constantly competing with everyone else you are only competing in the arena that the other people have set for you. If you spend your whole life competing with others those arenas are the only ones you will see. When you use yourself as a measure for your success you allow yourself to open up to infinite things you could improve on and pursue. The infinite things may make you much happier than what everybody else is doing.
  4. You get to define your own success: When you let go of people’s expectations and follow what makes you happy, you define your own success.
  5. You become free of other people’s judgement: When you compete with yourself you are dismissing other people’s measures for success. You might find yourself pursuing something that would seem crazy or a waste of time to someone else but it doesn’t matter you can’t let them affect you with what they think. You don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself.
